I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. |
With Valentine's Day just around the corner, many women (especially Christian women!) are looking longingly to romance novels, rom-coms, and online dating to fill a void in their lives. But, did you know that none of those places holds a candle to the romance story of the Bible?
Today I want to share with you about a book that is solely geared towards women searching for love. In Dee Brestin's book, "He Calls You Beautiful" we take an in depth look at the greatest love story ever told and how it impacts our daily walk with Christ.
I know what most of you are probably thinking. "What does the Bible have to do with a love story?" That is a fabulous question and Brestin does a fabulous job of pulling the focus of the Song of Solomon back to the love of our Creator. I don't want to give away too much and ruin the book for you, but I can say that Brestin explains it in such a way that you don't walk away feeling like you need a degree in Eschatology in order to understand how this book of the Bible fits in with the rest. She breaks the book down into bite size portions and the Bible study at the end of each chapter is very helpful in making sure that you really understand the text. These questions could be done individually or in a group setting.
Overall, I give He Calls You Beautiful a solid A+. This book shows us the incredible, sacrificial love of God through the love relationship between a man and a woman. Brestin does a great job of pointing the reader back to Christ with the Bible study portion at the end of each chapter. I can say that this book is THE VERY BEST study on the Song of Solomon that I have ever done. I look forward to reading more of Dee Brestin's work in the future!
Like you, I read as many books as I can. I enjoyed your review of He Calls You Beautiful. I have read one other book by Dee Brestin and appreciate her knowledge of the Bible. Blessings!
