Title Tuesday: Who I Am With You

Welcome to  Title Tuesday, my favorite day of the week! This day is dedicated to book suggestions, news, cartoons, and reviews. I write this portion of my blog because I am a big believer in the motivational speaker Charlie Jones' quote which says, "You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” I try to meet as many new people as possible and to read everything I can. This is my way of sharing that information with you. You can see a visual summary of the books I have reviewed for both adults and children over on my Facebook page. If you are interested in understanding my rating system for books you can read my Book Review Explanation here and What I Believe here. Today I want to share a book with you that I was FULLY prepared not to like. When I signed up for the blog tour for Who I am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher, I didn't realize it was fiction. I thought it was a marriage development book. So when it arrived and I realized my mistake, I was reluctant to begin reading the book.

Man was I wrong.

So the backstory here is that each of the main characters Jessica and Ridley have secrets that have tried their faith and made them pull away from society. I don't want to spoil the story by giving things away, so I won't share plot information but I can say that there were twists and turns in this book that I DID NOT see coming at all.

I also really enjoyed the fact that Jessica (the female lead character) wasn't perfect. She wasn't one of those vapid, damaged characters that tend to run rampant in Christian fiction until a man makes their life complete. She is intelligent, complex, and fascinating.

The only thing that I really did't like about this book was the amount of time that the couple spends alone together without being married. While I understand that this book is romantic. I am not crazy about selling the idea that you should hang out with a person of the opposite sex, alone, for long periods of time. I think it kind of set people up for failure.

Overall, I would give the writing of Who I am With You by Robin Lee Hatcher a solid B+. I enjoyed the characters immensely and for me, this book kick started a serious interest in reading more of Mrs. Hatcher's works. This book is geared towards more mature women, not adolescents given some of the more complicated aspects of the relationships.
