Title Tuesday: The Other Einstein

Welcome to  Title Tuesday, my favorite day of the week! This day is dedicated to book suggestions, news, cartoons, and reviews. I write this portion of my blog because I am a big believer in the motivational speaker Charlie Jones' quote which says, "You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” I try to meet as many new people as possible and to read everything I can. This is my way of sharing that information with you. You can see a visual summary of the books I have reviewed for both adults and children over on my Facebook page. If you are interested in understanding my rating system for books you can read my Book Review Explanation here and What I Believe here. If you want to check out what I am currently reading or what I want to read next, friend me on Goodreads or check out my Instagram page!

Did you know that Albert Einstein was married...twice? I didn't. I was researching the wives of men who made history and stumbled across The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict.

In The Other Einstein, Benedict tells us the tragic (fictional) story of Mitza Maric, the first wife of Albert Einstein. The story opens early on in Mitza's life as she is getting in to university. We follow her struggle as a female scientist as she fights to be taken seriously and as she battles her feelings as a young woman. It was fascinating to read the social customs and practices for the women who ventured out of the home for careers. Mitza's story eventually collides with Albert Einstein and the two are married. They each suffer devastating blows to their family and careers before Albert finds success and they finally divorce. Not much is known about Mitza after her life with Einstein.

When I finished the book I was so shocked at the ending that I did research after the fact and found out that Albert Einstein really was not the funny and amazing man that many of us believe him to be today, in fact he was pretty cruel to both of his wives. This book really serves as a cautionary tale for young women, to be careful in matters of the heart.

Overall, I give The Other Einstein by Marie Benedict a solid 4 star review. The book is very well written and will stick in your mind for quite some time after you have finished it.
