Women's Equality Day

Today is Women's Equality Day.

This is a day celebrating the success of the women's sufferage movement in procuring the right to vote for women.

As the title of this blog is "The Forgiven Former Feminist" I get a lot of question about women's rights. the question I wan to focus on today is one I was asked a couple of weeks ago via email. The question was, "if I don't support feminism, how can I support the right for women to vote?"

This one in my opinion is a no brainer.

Women should have equal right to vote, period.

This shouldn't even be a question.

And yet, it is. Why?

People assume that because I am pro-Biblical womanhood, that I am against women having lives, that I want to see all women doing the same thing, or that I think all women need to be stay-at-home moms. It is assumed if you encourage women to be content in their homes and with their families that you are promoting the degradation and subjugation of women under the rule of the male dominated society built on the patriarchal system of the Bible.

That is not the case at all!

I believe that God has called every woman to follow Him. I believe that he has a special job for each and everyone of us. I believe that women are a crucial part of the kingdom of Christ. However, it isn't because we are women that we are a crucial part. Galatians 3:28 says, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." We are all servants to The Lord, sent out to fulfil His mission to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" as it says in te great command in Matthew 28:19.

It doesn't matter if you are make or female, you should be working to glorify the kingdom of Christ. I don't know what that looks like for you. It may be working as a CEO of a major company. It may be leading bible study at your local church. It may be staying home with your children as you raise the next generation to follow Him. Only God can direct your purpose. But on this Women's Equality Day I want to encourage you to celebrate your femininity, pray and ask God how you can use our "equality" to His glorification.
