The other day my husband and I were getting ready to go to IKEA in Georgetown, Texas. As we were getting ready, I had to try on several different pairs of pants and MULTIPLE shirts. As I have mentioned before, I am expecting our first baby in November. Being 22 weeks pregnant means that my body (and subsequently my wardrobe) is rapidly changing. Needless to say, as I tried on outfit after outfit, I became a bit frustrated.
Things that used to fit are now packed away and new looser clothing has replaced it. I have documented a small amount of the changes that I am making in my wardrobe in my Modest Maternity series, but honestly there are days where I just want to wear sweatpants and a big baggy T-shirt.
While I was fighting back tears after trying on another outfit that didn't fit anymore, my husband B took a moment to reassure me. B talked about how much he appreciated that I don't just wear pajama bottoms and sweats. He told me that it meant a lot to him that I take the time to present myself well. It only took him a second to say that simple statement but it meant the world to me. It may sound like a silly thing to a lot of people but I was so encouraged to know that the effort that I was making was valued.
So today, I want to "pay it forward". I want to encourage single women, wives, moms, grandmothers, and everyone in between to take care of themselves. Take the time to paint your toes, do your hair, or add a pretty scarf to an outfit. I get a lot of encouragement from Pinterest. It may sound silly, but sometimes all you need is a little inspiration to add some sparkle just for you.
When looking at ways to take care of my skin, I pin ideas here.

When looking for styles to keep in mind I pin them here.
Modesty is important to me, so I pin a lot of modest styles here.
Pregnancy makes modesty a bit of a challenge but I pin inspiring pregnancy outfits here.
I am by no means saying that you have to look like Grace Kelly. As I said before, there are days where my old basketball shorts and a weightlifting shirt are my best friends. I understand being busy, stressed and tired. I just wanted to encourage you today to take a moment to add a little sparkle to your world. Don't do it for your husband, don't do it for your friends. Do it just for you. Take a moment to do something new or different that will make you feel special and beautiful.

This was a sweet post. I was expecting pictures. But I think your beautifully written words are very inspiring. It is so hard no adays to dress modestly. The clothes you find in stores aren't made for modesty at all!
ReplyDeleteI find older clothes in thrift stores much more to my liking! Thank you for sharing this sweet post. I would love to follow your journey! I'll look for your follow button. I am kind of a neighbor in DFW. So did you get anything at IKA. Baby furniture/stuff perhaps?
Many blessings to your family!
