Title Tuesday: Let Me Be A Woman

Welcome to  Title Tuesday, my favorite day of the week! This day is dedicated to book suggestions and reviews. I write this portion of my blog because I am a big believer in the motivational speaker Charlie Jones' quote which says, "You will be the same person in five years as you are today except for the people you meet and the books you read.” I try to meet as many new people as possible and to read everything I can. Today I want to share with you about the book that started my journey out of feminism. In my very first blog post I wrote about the confusion that comes with the modern definition of woman and how it has women waiting for their lives to begin. I started my journey out of feminism because of the book Let Me Be A Woman by Elisabeth Elliot. 

Elisabeth Elliot (who passed away in 2015) was the daughter of missionaries. She married a missionary who was murdered in the field, serving Christ. She continued to serve the Lord long after her first husband passed away. She wrote many books. But this one surpasses them all in my mind. 

I expected Let Me Be A Woman to be like all the other frilly Christian women's books. 

I was SO VERY WRONG.

Mrs. Elliot shocked me with theological insights and compassionate exhortation. 

Let Me Be A Woman is really geared towards the wife and mother calling, because it is a series of letters that Elliot wrote to her daughter prior to her marriage. This is especially encouraging to those of us that don't have the best relationship with our parents or whose parents have passed away.

She encourages the reader to be a strong woman of Christ and to stand firm in what God called her to do, even if other women don't support her in it. 

I read Let Me Be A Woman about once a year or more often if I am facing a tough time with the internet trolls that like to slam my page every so often. 

With just 49 short chapters (more like notes) Elliot encourages Christian women to be WOMEN, unapologetic in their differences with men, fulfilling the purpose that God created them for.  

The title of the book is fitting. We (Christina women) aren't called to be men, we are different. It is time that we let ourselves be women, no matter what feminists may say. 

Overall, I give Let Me Be A Woman an A+ and I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone that is a woman, knows a woman, or might one day come in contact with a woman. Basically, go read this book right now.
